The Nigh is End?

April 18, 2008

Well it took some time and effort for me to prise open the cover of this particular book. I had to soak the hinges overnight in ‘3in1’ and still ended up jumping up and down on the jemmy before the cover would budge. Was it really that long ago since I last updated the blog? Hell yeah…!

So.. personal life aside what about poker and more specifically my poker exploits? As I mentioned in a comment on SvcMgr’s latest blog entry, I have been mostly if not totally poker inactive for the year so far. Read more

Confidence and on line Poker

February 2, 2008

So, you are sitting there at home, staring at a computer screen playing poker. It’s a “you against the world” type of situation. No one can see you, most people who you play against don’t even know anything about you. Table presence is dictated by your play, not your personality or attitude at the table. So why then, does confidence play a factor?

First, I should explain that I think it makes a BIG difference. Big enough, in my opinion, that it can make the difference between “being on top” or “being in a slump”.

First hand experience has shown me that when I am NOT playing confidently, I can go out 6th or 5th in a 6 man SNG. When I am playing confidently, I make the money about every time. That’s a big swing huh?

If I am not confident in myself, you could see how a few games could put me “in a slump”.

If I am confident, watch out!

If it don’t taste bitter to lose, it sure won’t taste that Sweet when winning!

November 27, 2007

Ok I am going to start off talking about poker just to be sure that I include it in this week’s blog entry. That said I think I am guilty of going on a bit, not sure if I knew where I was going with the post when I started hitting the keys.

I read Gophers blog recently, it is an old topic touched on before by all of us at one time or another. A good idea, there is still a lot of mileage in some of those older topics, in this case the apathy or lack-lustre attitude that can creep into your game. Gopher suggests getting back to basics and re-evaluating your game from the ground up.

Sound advice.

But, not for me, not this time. I know what my problem is with poker, it is not the suck-outs, the cold cards, the series of bad beats. It isn’t any of those things, it is simply boredom. Playing $5 SNG’s just bores the pants offa me! Unless I am cruising the games with fellow Skyper’s, then it doesn’t matter what the buy in stakes are, I am just playing and having fun with my online buds. Read more

Why am I doing this blog?

March 16, 2007

I thought I would start this out by explaining a little about why I am doing all of this.

As you can see from the menu (blog links) on the right, I have been lucky to become friends with some fellow Poker players who also blog a little.

We are all members of an on-line league called Poker Chip Squad. Clicking on the link will take you there if you are interested in learning more about the League. We started out a couple of years ago as a Free Roll league. We originally only played in free rolls and buy-in games were not League sponsored.

A Barren Week

December 15, 2006

Wow, seems an age since I last opened this page up.I have been on a self imposed sabbatical from poker for the last week. There are various reasons, amongst them is the fact this is a very busy time of year for me, along with a 48hour bug thrown in there somewhere and a need for a little break from the game.
