Playing live – my experience
March 23, 2007
I play live tourny’s usually once a week. I play in the Badger Poker League (link to site).
Since I live in the USA, gambling is illegal in my state unless the government is involved or you happen to be an Indian Tribe.
So, in order to run a league like the one I am involved in, it has to be a “free roll” or no charge to play league. You can be awarded prizes for winning, etc. but you can’t charge people to play.
If you go to the site, you will see that they play at different bars all during the week. I only play on Mondays because the bar is close to my house (about 2 miles) and the time involved (explained later) is a factor.
Won me another one!

And then About the poker
With the winnings the other night freshly in my mind i hitted the omaha h/l table again. And ended up between what we call fish or monkeys, I strongly told myself stick to the discipline! Stick to the strategy! Let them monkey around and they’ll get knocked out.
I noticed there were 2 players at the table who played a solid game so I leaned back and let them battle it out, one disappeared pretty early. second got knocked out and then i got a hand! ace king 2 of hearts and 3 of spades! the fish to my right did what he ususally does when i simply called he tried to scare the rest out of the pot by raising from 40 bb to 480 but this time we were 3 who called. on the flop came ace jack 10 so i got toppair, flush and straight -draw! I betted pretty hard 500 and all called!! Boy! They can’t all have the straight! on the turn came 8 of heart and i caught the flush so I betted them all in! all called???? Wooow! River came and it was a 7 of spades wich gave me both high and low! The guy to my right got knocked out and the others were left with 45 and 135 chips and gave me about 7500 chips so early in the tournament!
Eventually when we were down to 3, me with 7800, second with 3500 and third with 1000 chips aprox we did some rounds just trying each other out! the shortstacked didn’t last that long due to the blinds so we were down to 2!
Earlier in all the excitment i yelled to pinkdog -Come watch me kick some ass here! and he told me to calm down a bit and focus not in those words but somewhat more diplomatic! So I got a grip on myself and started focus again! This guy caught both quads and straight flush but he didn’t chip up so much! I did get lucky on a couple of hands and he was down to some 1000 chips!
And there kicked the arrogance in! I started to think – like a piece of pie or a walk in the park! Oboy i’m invincible here! I tell you all if dog hadn’t pmed me right there and then I probably wouldn’t have snapped out of it and gotten second without a fight! Just a simple -Hey Netty nice hand and nice bet got me to think again -what the frikken …… are you doing my mind asked and I actually manage to focus! The last hand I have to say I really got lucky, it wasn’t any skill behind the fact i won there! He went all in 1000 chips preflop and i simply called with ace 2 3 4 rainbow and caught the low straight, he had ace k k 10! So I did win the tournament there and then!
Wooohoooo!
Didn’t play anymore that evening due to being to tired, unfocused and went to see a film instead!
And so we continue…..
March 22, 2007
Well, after the announcement that the Pokerchipsquad LEAGUE has finished, we’re more than less getting back into the groove. The announcement confused a lot of people to begin with, but hopefully everyone knows the situation now. Here is a quick rundown……
- Only the poker league is closing down – not the forum.
- There will still be private games for the members, the sites being Absolute, Vegas Poker, 3d Poker for all members including US players, and PKR for all players except the US.
- The Pokerchipsquad forum does remain as the central meeting and information point. Details of the private games and up to the minute news will be posted there.
- The live chat facility at Paltalk also remains. Details on how to access this are in the forum.
So, hopefully this will clear up some of the confusion surrounding the recent events.
As for me, I have another article almost ready to publish here at Grins and Groans. I should have it ready for the weekend, so keep an eye out for it.
Also, if you haven’t done so already, take a look at the other blogs I’ve linked to. All mainly concern poker and are well worth the reading. Oh, and don’t be shy! All the bloggers will fully welcome comments and critique – good or bad. We are all striving to be better players so if you have an alternative view of what we post, don’t be afraid to tell us.
Here are the other blogs to check out….
Poker Playground – Blaggers poker musings. Blagz was the first to have a regular blog. He actually got me into starting mine back up!
Poker Globe – Rich’s Blog. Rich is also the owner of the Pokerchipsquad Forum.
Netty Boop – The only female in the forum blogging thus far, Netty just started her blog a week ago and just can’t stop blogging now!
Poker and Me – The newest blog in our little family, Dave (AKA Svcmgr) has started off strong, and only seems to be getting stronger. Another great addition for us bloggers!
So there you go! Go check them out, and please remember… all comments are welcome at all the blogs!
Just a quick one
March 22, 2007
Last night, I ran into the Dog and Blagz at Absolute.
Played in a Omaha H/L Pot limit (Dogs favorite game) $5 sng. I got second place. Pretty good for me since my Omaha H/L game is pretty weak.
Then, Dog and I (Blagz was tired. It was real late for him) went over to a $5 sng NLHE table. I got second there also.
Last night!

I did play 3 tournaments! First I found the good Kbvital (member of the league) in skype and we agreed on playing a sitngo at Vegas, unfortunately the table we or me thought of playing he didn’t find before it started and therefor I played it alone! Read more
Exchange of Ideas
March 21, 2007
So, one of my main intents with starting this blog is to get different views and perspectives about poker.
My fellow bloggers, Net, Blagz, Gopher, and PC all have well written and thought provoking blogs.
I am wondering how they would feel about the following: Read more
