Luck and the Poker Player

What is it about luck and poker?

I have been thinking about this lately and I thought I would share my observations. Comments, as always, are not only welcome but appreciated.

First, lets define luck. I looked up the definition of luck and found this. Luck is “a force that brings good fortune or adversity.” Notice that it says good fortune OR adversity. So, this covers both good luck and bad luck.

I was talking to Blagz and Dog the other day about this very thing. I have been thinking about the importance of luck in this game and its “weight” in the whole scheme of things.

Why am I doing this blog?

March 16, 2007

I thought I would start this out by explaining a little about why I am doing all of this.

As you can see from the menu (blog links) on the right, I have been lucky to become friends with some fellow Poker players who also blog a little.

We are all members of an on-line league called Poker Chip Squad. Clicking on the link will take you there if you are interested in learning more about the League. We started out a couple of years ago as a Free Roll league. We originally only played in free rolls and buy-in games were not League sponsored.

This is me

February 3, 2006

Here is a little bit about me.

My nickname at most sites is svcmgr or a vaiant of svcmgr = Service Manager.

My name is Dave. I live in Wisconsin with my family. I have been married for a pretty long time. I have 2 kids. One boy – 17 years old and a daughter who is 22 years old.

I am a Service Manager for a CNC Machine Tool Distributor, hence the name.

I have been playing on line for a few years now. My game did not really significantly improve until I hooked up with my fellow members at this site. I can’t stress enough how having other good players evaluate your game and offer suggestions for improvement makes you a much better player.

I enjoy helping other players get better at their game. So, don’t be afraid to ask for help. All of the players here feel pretty much the same way.

Sometimes I work long hours or have to travel for my job so my playing time can be limited.

I play, pretty much, any of the games. I prefer No limit but I also enjoy Omaha H/L. I have played Stud, Razz, and HORSE but those I play just to do something different.

My goal is to become a very solid player with the hopes of someday, maybe playing in the WSOP.

I play live about once a week in a local Tourny which adds to my experience of live action.

I am pretty much a SNG or Multi Table Tourny player. I don’t mess around at the cash tables too much but I am going to try to do that more often this year.

I can be reached on Skype. My name is svcmgr.

Welcome to the Forum and good luck on the felt
