A Textured and Colourful Week
December 22, 2006
It has been a “textured” week, as Mr Lederer would say. With more ups than downs.A very slight hang over this morning, nothing too spectacular, just enough of one to put me off facing any kind of breakfast other than hot steaming mugs of Java.

| As far as league games go, had a couple of final table spots and a win, so well, that’s ok-ish. I haven’t played an awful lot of league games this month but managed 3 wins so far and that’ll do me. As for sit and go’s and MTT’s outside of the league, for the most part pretty successful, taking away more money than I invested, so again can not complain.PinkDog and I played one 70 seater during the week where I was out in 27th and Dog went on to win the game. Man it was fun, early on he was like just storming in swinging his sword and they fell all about him like so many beheaded sunflower plants.
I was almost screaming down the mic for him to reign in it and finally he acquiesced and sat back down again and sheathed his sword. Within the first 20 minutes he had hacked his bloody way to a 4 times chip leader over the rest of the tournament players. Great stuff.. He then played some really nice poker for an hour and let the field whittle itself down. With about 15 players or so left, the itch got to him again and before I knew it, he was up and charging the windmills (re the link; guess this makes me Sancho.. sheesh) again swinging his sword above his head. Shouting “no limping on my BB yah pussies” and raising his own BB with what I would term “sheeyite” cards. But fortune favoured the bold and again he carved himself up to a bigger chip stack. After cranking my mic up to full volume and banging it on the desktop a few times, he settled down again. And armed with a new impressive chip stack, he continued to play some very smart poker. This continued throughout the rest of the game where he totally dominated the final table and with professional ease picked the final players off one by one. PinkDog that was so funny man and at the same time so impressive, gotta tell you folks we were both a little “lit” and the banter between us that night was right up there.. I’ll have to make a recording of it one night and publish it on here. During one of our recent evening games I mentioned to Dog about using four colour decks on the poker sites when ever there was the opportunity to do so. I always use four colour decks if possible and was surprised that he didn’t.
I have mentioned it to a couple of the league players and they also were very disdainful of using four colour decks. Almost like it was something the newbies use, not us seasoned players. Well folks I am here to tell you to use four colour decks when ever you get the chance. It is not a newbie thing to do, it is the correct thing to do. And I’ll explain why.. When you are playing online poker, you have a window on your screen with a lot going on in it, a multitude of colours and moving things all within a limited window on a 2D screen. The game moves at a pace that can not be matched when playing live. You may have pop ups happening, you may have chat windows running, etc. Basically you have possible distractions happening that would not happen in a live game. Any edge you can get in a game of online poker you have to take and if by using a four colour deck you don’t miss just one hand it’s worth using it. Once accustomed to using a four colour deck you’ll find it just that little bit more assuring when playing a hand. If you don’t want to take my word for this, then ask any Pro out there if they use four coloured decks when playing online, promise yah, you will get a resounding chorus of “of course I do!”… Try it.. stick at it.. and you’ll be back to thank me. Right then.. [open: tongue in cheek mode] That’s you poker snobs told. [close: tongue in cheek mode] I’ll try and come up with a Xmas Special blog between now and the 25th, not quite sure what yet, but I’ll think about it… I do have some idea’s kicking around … Till then, good luck on the felt folks. |
