Well that was the Weekend that was…
November 20, 2006
I apologise for any “lameness” of the blog today, I have been down with a bug for a couple of days and am not really firing on all cylinders…On Saturday my league held 5 freeroll tournaments. The majority of the league members were and are very dismissive of freerolls, but most agreed it would be a good idea to have them, hoping they would promote our league name and hopefully we would manage to find a few players that would stick around and actually become regular members of the league.

| As always with this kind of tournament (free) the vast majority of new players that turned up were just free loaders with about as much poker acumen as a blindfolded monkey sitting at the keyboard and randomly belting the buttons with a banana. Many also had very similar table manners as said monkey.Of the very few half decent players I observed, I only saw one (there were surely others I didn’t observe) that had the right attitude and was polite and friendly on the tables. For me that is more important by far, than poker prowess. It was a long old day for many of the league members, some starting as early as 5am and going right through nearly 18 hours of freeroll tournaments. It was also an incredible shock to most of us. You have to understand that the league players mostly play amongst themselves (all proficient poker players) and in real money games, where most of the folks playing are experienced poker players. It is rare to see immature name calling and general disrespect on money tables, and, within my league I have never seen it.
The day of the Poker-Thon went something like this for me; 1st free roll game – Amusing 2nd free roll game – Confusing 3rd free roll game – Annoying 4th free roll game – Boring 5th free roll game – You can take free roll games and shove em up the rosy red arse of the first banana eating monkey you come across. It didn’t help I was suffering with a bug and my usual laid back, devil may care attitude was ever so slightly sharpened by a dull head and achey everything. This bug persisted into Sunday, causing me to postpone my trip. Rather stupidly I registered to play a league tournament Sunday night, turned up 15 minutes late as I had thought I had de-registered, played 4 or 5 hands and was out. Why did I even consider playing a game with enough medication coursing through my body to have had a full grown grizzly bear either in lock down hibernation, or tripping the light fantastic with the spiders from mars, only the gods know… Aside from a fuzzy recollection of talking to a couple of the league members late on Sunday most of the day went by in a dreamy haze of aches and sleep on the couch. My trip is now happening today (Monday) as I feel somewhat better and I should be back to full speed by Weds on my return. Good luck on the felt.. till next time.. —————————— Remember you are welcome to add and read comments, just click on the comments (no comments) tag directly below any blog entry. |

Got something to say?

Well mate, I have to agree with you on the freerolls. I hate them…. I had just forgot how MUCH I hated them, and why. I played only 2 of the games on Saturday and was bingo’d out of hands constantly in both. These freeloaders always seem to be rewarded by the poker sites. But hey, the games served their purpose as we got some good players too. Hopefully they won’t be put off by some of the things that went on.
On another note….. can i take this opertunity to gloat about CELTIC reaching the last 16 of the Champions League after dumping the might Man Utd 1-0 in Glasgow on Tuesday! A night to remember for every Celtic fan and Man Utd hater in the land!
A serious hangover on Wednesday still couldn’t wipe the smile off my face!
Hail! Hail!

Hmm ok but only because Arsenal had a 3-1 win the same night
Re: The new players from the freerolls, if we have managed to get a few more regular players then I have to agree.
