A short update (well it started out to be short)

March 9, 2008

I has been quite a while since I posted so I thought I would just put a short update in here about what I have been doing lately.

There are a few of us in the Suited Jokers forum that play an on line game called O-Game. It is a space simulation game where you build up planets and forces in an effort to attack other people and take over the Universe. I don’t know who started this thing. It was either Blagger or Dog, but, I am running out of enthusiasm for it. If you are not prepared to spend a lot of time with it because you need to do it just about every day, then it isn’t real fun to play. Lately, my available time hasn’t allowed me to adequately play so I may need to just shut it down for a while (you can go in “vacation” mode where nothing will happen to you) and see if I want to play later.

I have been learning about how to administrate a forum. The Suited Jokers forum is a new venture for a few of us who are dedicated to QUALITY poker play. We don’t sponsor games, we don’t have freerolls which is fine for us. We did this to stay in touch with each other and to improve our poker playing skills. We are all tired of the numerous donks and monkeys out there and we want a place where we can intelligently discuss the game. We also enjoy joining other forums to see how we can do. We have been pretty successful with this and it can be quite fun at times.

For those of you that know me, you know I usually play at a live Tournament on Mondays. There are usually 50 -80 people there and it is good practice for me. Last Monday, I was doing pretty well when a new player sat down at my table. This guy was a egotistical Donk. He was one of those players that thinks they are Gus Hansen when actually, they really suck at Poker. He would be on the button, push the blinds, then flip over a J 2 or something and puff up like he was the best thing ever. Anyway, I got into a hand with him. At the end of the hand, he just flips over one of his cards, throws it in the middle of the table and never says call or fold. I said wtf, or something along those lines because he never stated his intentions. So, the tournament manager had to come over and he said that the hand was valid cause he showed his card. I didn’t agree with that assesment because first of all, he never stated his intention. Second he flipped over one card and there it into the middle of the table which is usually a muck. And third, he only showed one card. The Tournament director appologized but said that the rules they played by allowed this. Well, I got a little upset. I called the other player a punk ass bitch. I told him I don’t appreciate that type of play. Blah, blah, blah. All of the other players at my table felt the same as I did. If you know me, you would know it usually takes a lot of crap to get me upset. But, if I do get upset, watch out! I wasn’t upset about losing the hand. I was upset about HOW I lost the hand. Anyway, if I play tomorrow, I will make sure I don’t sit at his table. If he comes to mine, I may just ask to be moved.

I have been pretty busy at work too. This Thursday and Friday, I am going to New Jersey for a business trip to attend some meetings. A interesting thing came up Friday too. I am trying to sell a used machine to someone in Wisconsin. The machine happens to be located in Johanessburg, South Africa. We are trying to sell the machine for 5 million dollars. It’s a pretty big machine. It weighs 420 metric tons. If the customer is interested, I may need to go there to look at the machine with them. This would have to happen either next week or the week after next. A sales commision on a 5 million dollar sale would be SWEET.

There is some sort of flu going around here. My whole Department (5 people) were out last week for a couple of days because of this which makes it difficult for me because there is no one there to help me. I haven’t gotten it yet. I may have a small piece of it because I haven’t been feeling too good but it hasn’t been enough to keep me from work.

On top of that, I also am the IT guy at work. We are in the process of adding in a new file server (1 terabye) because we are low on memory which means all of the computers need to be re-mapped. We are adding a CRM software package enterprise wide for the salesmen. And I am upgrading my Service Management software. This stuff in itself would be a full time thing for me for a week or two.

My daughters car broke down last week so who do you think they asked to fix it? It ended up needing a new coil module but in between the time of it being fixed, we needed to shuttle her around to work, college, etc.

So, besides playing live on Monday. I haven’t played a hand of poker all week.

I really need one of those days where we hook up on Skype, have a few cocktails, relax, and play some poker.

I have some ideas on a post about on line Donkeys which were inspired by Goph’s post but I need to get them together first.

Until then, good luck at the tables!

    Nice to see you hon!

I can’t see how he could have won that hand without stating his purpose calling or folding. Is that some kind of exclusive rule just for that casino because of what i read and experienced your hand count as dead if you don’t state clearly what you intentions are like say out loud call, fold, bet, raise or reraise. only check is excluded by knocking at the table. Otherwise you have to either bet + amount and the shove the chips infront..

So i really do understand your reaction.

And about the trip and commission WOW! i keep my swedish fingers here for you.

Anyway welcome back, nice to able to read your blog again!

Somehow i can’t edit my own comment here but

“Otherwise you have to either bet + amount and the shove the chips infront..”

    was meant to be:

“Otherwise you have to either say bet + amount and the shove the chips infront or say fold”.

I agree with you mate. The tournament director got it wrong. Any TD worth their salt would have ruled against the hand standing. Maybe you should have a word with the TD before your next game and explain the rules used by virtually every other TD out there!

In the case of this donk….. you should jump at the chance to be at his table. You know he’s a donk and could outplay him easily. Also, he will be wary of you if he lands at your table. I say it’s time to take out the trash! But don’t look on it as a revenge mission. Look on it as a chance to teach the ignorant a lesson in all aspects of poker. He probably won’t take it in but it will give you some good ol’ self satisfaction when you whup his ass!

Good luck with the job stuff and hopefully things will calm down long enough for a drop in to skype!

Quit sniveling, ya lost the hand to a better player and about the only thing you didn’t bitch about was the freakin cold weather.

LOL, Just kidding there Dave, and I agree with Gopher. You got this donkey right where ya want him so just play your game and you’ll have no problem taking his chips every time you have the honor of his company. lol

Johanessburg, man, ya better check out the lay of the land before ya get there. Maybe go online and see what our government says about tourism there and how dangerous it is for Americans.

Emily was just in Jamaica this year and she and Jason hired a armed bodyguard every day they were there. I think she said it was 40 bucks a day but it was well worth it for the peace of mind. Check it out if ya go.

But, if ya get that commission ya can meet me and Mike in Vegas, lol, so be careful and ….

See Ya on the Felt in Vegas

Hey bud.. I wondered where yah had been last couple of weeks..

You gonna be around for the OFC this weekend? Or gallivanting off to South Africa, becoming quite the globe trotter eh.. :)

I’d like to see the logistics for dragging 420 metric tonnes of metal across the Atlantic..

Re: Your live donk I am a bit confused? Did he throw his cards in before the end of the hand? Like he quit? Was it just two of you in the hand?

No South Africa trip yet. The deal is still working.
I just got back from New Jersey.
By the way, just the shipping costs for a machine that size = $95,000.00 usd. (ships only, no trucks, etc.)
Anyway, sorry I haven’t been around a lot. Got some personal stuff going on too. When it rains, it pours.
I have reg’d for the OFC freeroll. Got no money for Sunday but maybe we will cash.
I don’t think the P2P portion of their site is working real good so transfering can be an issue right now.
As far as the Donk…I was just me and him. He didn’t state his intentions but flipped a card over and threw it in the middle. According to the TC, the cards are not offically mucked until the dealer gathers them up and the hand can still be played…
I am over it. Don’t let the Donks get ya!

    $95′000 for 420 metric tonnes?

That is very cheap, works out to summat like 10cents on the pound (lb)weight.. erm doesn’t it?

Man it would be cheaper for me to fly to South Africa and get that boat to the US rather than fly direct from here. lol

Got something to say?
