If it don’t taste bitter to lose, it sure won’t taste that Sweet when winning!

November 27, 2007

Ok I am going to start off talking about poker just to be sure that I include it in this week’s blog entry. That said I think I am guilty of going on a bit, not sure if I knew where I was going with the post when I started hitting the keys.

I read Gophers blog recently, it is an old topic touched on before by all of us at one time or another. A good idea, there is still a lot of mileage in some of those older topics, in this case the apathy or lack-lustre attitude that can creep into your game. Gopher suggests getting back to basics and re-evaluating your game from the ground up.

Sound advice.

But, not for me, not this time. I know what my problem is with poker, it is not the suck-outs, the cold cards, the series of bad beats. It isn’t any of those things, it is simply boredom. Playing $5 SNG’s just bores the pants offa me! Unless I am cruising the games with fellow Skyper’s, then it doesn’t matter what the buy in stakes are, I am just playing and having fun with my online buds. Read more

Full circle

November 19, 2007

Svcmgr has been busy on his blog this month and it has been such a relief to see some new material. He was, and still is having the same problem as most of the skype crew, me included - A total disinterest in playing poker.

Every poker player will go through this and it can be caused by several things. From personal reasons outwith poker to being sick of being sucked out by monkey players to just being ‘pokered out’. Or in lamens terms, playing too much.

Everyone will have their own reasons, and they can comment on it for themselves. But before commenting, see if you connect with what I’m going to tell you. Reading Dave’s blog really made me think about my game and what is wrong with it. The thing is, there was nothing in the blogs that struck a chord, as such. Just reading them made me think.

Ok Let’s Crank it up Again!

November 16, 2007

Oh boy.. It has been an age since I last strolled into these not-so hallowed halls. My last entry was on… August the 8th holy schmoley! That is three whole months to catch up on!

Shoot I can’t sit here and type up three months of missed blogging I’d be here for the next three months doing so, then I’d be three months behind again and wouldn’t have got anywhere.. So I’ll have to satisfy myself with cherry picking the events I failed to document here and maybe give a brief synopsis of things.

As some you will have noticed the blog title has changed. This is because the blog has always been a mix of poker stories and everyday stories, and now with me playing less poker I suspect the rest of “Life, The Universe and Everything” outside of poker, will become a more dominant theme.

Anyhow let’s start the ‘catch up’, so in no particular order…. Read more

The Jury is out…..

November 16, 2007

I have questioned the integrity of poker sites in the past, but not for the reason I will talk about in a moment. My main problem with some sites was their software. I feel their Random Number Generators (RNG) are not good enough. (The RNG is in place to give the online cards a random shuffle). I have played many sites, but there are some that you can practically predict the cards - especially on the turn and river. When giving this some serious thought though, I came to the comclusion that it wasn’t any kind of ‘cheat’ in the software or the RNG, but was in fact just the way the software acted. And remember, we see way more hands on the virtual tables than at a live game, so you are bound to see more ‘bad beats’ or suckouts. For the sites I questioned, I realised that you just have to work with the software and exploit the weaknesses as best you can.

More Omaha H/L

November 16, 2007

In the last post, we got a few of the basics covered regarding Omaha H/L.

I was thinking of continuing this but first I want to talk a little about what Gopher mentioned in his reply in the last post.

Goph mentioned that he plays Omaha H/L better drunk. He admittedly points out the fact that it is probably luck that gets him through but it raises an interesting point.

Now, I am going to talk about plain Monkeys, drunk Monkeys, and aggressive Monkeys but I want this in no way to reflect on Goph. He is a good player. He just mentioned it and it got me thinking.

Omaha H/L

November 12, 2007

I didn’t play a lot this weekend but when I did play, I played mostly Omaha H/L Pot limit.

It seems a few of us have been playing that game more often. Maybe is a case of boredom with Hold Em or just something different to try to get the enthusiasm back.

I like this game. I wouldn’t play it every day, all the time, but it can be challenging at times. I also think it is easier to win money if you know what you are doing. My experience has shown that there are a lot of people out there playing this game that don’t have a clue as to what they are doing.

I am not going to sit here and tell you I am the best player at this game. I will however offer some general advice that may help your game.
